FAQ

Why Should I Hire You?

These days everybody has smartphones or fancy cameras and call themselves photographers. What most are lacking though is the proper education to nail lighting or composition correctly or the creative vision to put their thought into motion. I have studied and studied the last five years to be able to achieve the quality that you see on social media and on my website every shoot and don’t get it by getting lucky. I have attended numerous workshops and have done one on one mentoring specific to newborn photography. There is so much more to it than just snapping the shutter. I can create your vision and tackle it with professionalism and will always make every client my top priority. I have my business license, business insurance and do not do this as a hobby. I specialize in newborn and maternity photography because it speaks to me. It is my “why” and literally all I think about on a daily basis. The safety of your baby is not something I take lightly and I will never do something that would put that in jeopardy. In this world of Pinterest and various other social media, it is scary to see so many so called photographers attempting poses without proper safety training. Please keep in mind when you are searching for the right newborn photographer that whomever you decide to go with is a professional photographer with a license/insurance and specializes or have had a lot of experience in newborn photography. They need to be well versed with all aspects of newborn photography and have had hands on training with safety education as well.

What is the Creative Fee?

The creative fee is the fee for my time and talent as your photographer. This fee is collected up front in the form of a retainer and is required to complete your booking and secure your selected session date. I will send you an electronic invoice along with the quote/contract and you may pay using paypal.

What Methods of Payment Do You Accept?

I accept Paypal, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Cash or Check. Keep in ind that if you choose to pay by check I cannot release any digital media/product until after the check clears. Normally following your session I will give you your digital images on a flash drive at the ordering appointment but cannot due so if you are paying my check so please plan ahead accordingly.

Are Digital Images Included?

I am a “hybrid” studio. I offer both art pieces and digital negatives. I believe a printed image or album to be the most valuable way to highlight your art. However, digital files are a product that in demand, so I gladly offer them. Digital images are available for purchase and are in addition to my creative session fee. You may purchase your digital image option following our session. They are available either through my Create A Collection Pricing or A La Carte Pricing. Most of my clients purchase their digital images by choosing my Create A Collection Pricing because it gives you more flexibility, you get a signature heirloom/art product plus all of your images from your entire gallery, rather than choosing only your favorite ten or twenty when purchasing through A La Carte Pricing.

Why Are Digital Images So Expensive?

Color space, monitor calibration, paper profiles and printer technology are advanced stuff.  When I edit your images in Photoshop, I embed color “data” into the file that a professional lab with advanced equipment can read. They assess the metadata and print your files exactly as we see it on the screen at your ordering appointment. Whether you decide to purchase your files as digitals or as printed products, the process from is exactly the same.  A print is archival. It will last. A digital file is electronic. It will not! We can always make a digital image from a print. We cannot from a corrupted file! There is also a lost opportunity cost to the studio the moment I hand a client their digital files. That cost is factored into my pricing so that I can continue to be in business.

What is the Average Investment?

On average my clients invest around $1200-$1500 for the session and product.

How Long Does The Session Take and Where Will It Be?

My newborn session take on average 2-3 hour and totally depend on baby. All of my other sessions take an hour with the  exception to maternity sessions. With a maternity session it is either 30 minutes or an hour depending on the type of session you desire. All newborn sessions take place at my home studio. Maternity and Milestone sessions are either outdoor or studio. All other sessions are always outdoors.  I have many outdoor locations that I use and these will be discussed in detail after booking your session.

How Many People Can Be at the Session?

Outdoor family sessions are for up to six people. Anything in addition to that must be discussed and paid for in advance. I charge $25 per extra person. Newborn sessions are only for the immediate family.

Are Parent/Sibling Shots Included with Newborn Session?

Parent and sibling shots are absolutely available and encouraged. This would fall under my All The Details Session.

What Should I Wear to the Session?

I am in the process of building a studio wardrobe to help with this dilemma. We will discuss your wardrobe options during the consult over the phone or in person prior to the session. Generally speaking, creams and neutrals always look best. Look at texture and coordinate to where things coexist and aren’t too matchy matchy. You can all wear the same color but the secret is doing so to where it doesn’t look identical while doing so. If you would like, I can do online shopping for you and send you an email with all of the purchasing links so that it can take most of the guesswork out of it for you. This is included with all of my sessions. You ultimately choose what to purchase on the final order of course and it can be modified as need be. I find that most of the time people are completely lost as to what to wear. I know what photographs well, so I love to help you with this. Clothing can make or break the entire session, so please let me help you however you need and feel free to call me.

Can I Change Outfits During Our Session?

You can always switch things up but keep in mind that this eats up the allotted time we have for the session. It’s best to dress in a layered option if you want different looks. Bring accessories and layering pieces that are quick and easy.

What Should I Bring?

You do not need to bring anything as far as props, etc. I have a ton of options and we will discuss this during our consultation when we are discussing the style of the session.

How Far In Advance Should I Book Our Session?

I typically book 2-3 months out and only take a certain amount of newborns per month.  It is always best to book in advance and as soon as possible to make sure I have a spot available for you.

How Far Do You Travel?

I travel up to 20 miles away. Anything beyond that is available for an additional fee. Please inquire for specifics.

What is the Turnaround Time Following Our Session?

My typical turnaround time is anywhere from 2-4 weeks. We will discuss my current turnaround time at the time of your session and choose another date accordingly to have the ordering viewing/appointment.

What if I Need to Cancel?

If you need to cancel or reschedule I require 24 hours prior to our session. Please let me know as soon as possible if you need to make a change and I will do my best to accommodate you for a future date available.

Do You Offer Reshoots?

I offer reshoots only when there is a scheduling conflict. I cannot assume any responsibility for poor clothing choices, specific requested poses/set ups, behavior problems, etc. This is a business and as much as I love to provide an exceptional experience from beginning to end for all of my clients, there is simply a limit to what I can do when it involves additional time to do so.

What if My Baby Doesn’t Sleep for the Newborn Session?

This is a tough one for me. As a parent you are expecting all of these sleepy basket shots and cuddly poses but it just doesn’t always work out that way depending on the baby’s temperament that day. Some babies have tummy issues, want to cluster feed, etc. It’s a very rare day that I am not able to achieve the desired results but sometimes we do have to ditch the original plan if baby is just having a bad day. I will always attempt the session up until the time that baby is showing signs of distress and we may have to just settle for swaddled, awake shots rather than sleepy, squishy poses in this situation. Please be patient and know that this is out of everybody’s control. The baby can sense tension and it can absolutely make or break the session if you are not calm. If I feel that the gallery will be lacking in variation I will offer to reschedule the shoot to a different day.
