Newborns are SOOO much fun! When people used to tell me that prior to having my own babies I kinda used to do an internal eye roll because of course, right? I had no idea how that statement would feel looking back after they grew into little people. It literally feels like I blinked and it was over. I absolutely love being a newborn photographer because duh I get my newborn fix but even more than that I want to provide those precious moments to other parents and help them keep those moments as close as emotionally and physically possible. The emotion, being face-to-face with a literal miracle is so beyond magical and it must be preserved and cherished, protected and nurtured, just like your precious babe.

Newborn photography is quite different from maternity or family photography because it can be a bit of a challenge. Like many, I found myself underestimating the process as a new mom and after having my first baby’s newborn shoot I had a new found respect for the newborn photographer’s job. More than anything the “negotiation” process (like how I put that in quotes) is real and challenging but oh so wonderful when we can achieve those sleepy shots on the beanbag or in your favorite prop that eternalize the most special moments in life.

As a Sacramento Newborn and Family Photographer I thrive in outdoor settings but also have a room full of props and sweet little numbers that we can bring to the table to create the perfect environment for you and your newborn. I recommend booking your newborn session at least six weeks before your due date when possible to make sure you have a spot reserved on the calendar. After we’ve completed the booking process, we will reserve a spot according to your due date and then after your baby arrives we will adjust to around the 10-14 day mark after baby’s arrival. My newborn sessions generally last two to two and a half hours and include wardrobe for mama and baby. I will give you prep instructions via email a few days prior to the session to help the session flow as well as possible. These instructions include quite a few suggestions and I find that my sessions go so much more smoothly when parents follow them as much as possible.
